What Patch Types Are Available?

Patches are a great way to decorate many different products. They come in a variety of styles, whether that's embroidered, woven, sublimated, or leather. Depending on your artwork, desired result, budget, and products, we can recommend the best type to use.

Patch Styles

Embroidered

547 (13)

This style of patch features an embroidered appearance with a textured feel.  We'll commonly recommend this for moderately detailed vector art without small details or text.

Woven

547 (14)

This style of patch features a sharp appearance with a smooth, flat feel. We'll commonly recommend this for more detailed vector artwork, especially with clean lines or smaller text.

Sublimated

547 (15)

This style of patch has a printed appearance on twill material. We'll only recommend this for artwork featuring gradients, lots of colors, or details that won't translate to a woven or embroidered patch.

Leather or Faux Leather

547 (16)

This style of patch has the premium appearance of leather with artwork deboss into the material. If you prefer this style, we'd recommend simple artwork, such as a lone symbol, corporate logo, or designs in one color with limited details. We offer genuine and faux leather in a variety of colors.

PVC

547 (17)

This style of patch has a smooth appearance, adds dimension to artwork, with the bonus of being waterproof and durable. If you prefer this style, we'd recommend simple artwork, such as a lone symbol, corporate logo, or designs with limited details.

Edge Type

Embroidered, woven, and sublimated patches can select from a few different edge types depending on the shape of the patch and the final appearance you'd prefer.

Merrowed

547 (18)

This is our standard edge type. An 1/8th inch border is sewn around the patch producing a durable edge less likely to fray. This works with standard shapes (ovals, rectangles, shields).

Satin Stitch

547 (19)

This is our alternative edge type for more complex shapes when merrowed isn't possible. The border produced is thinner and simulates a merrowed appearance.

Die Cut

547 (20)

In certain cases, a die cut edge may be selected. We caution proceeding with this type due to it making final attachment more difficult, which may cause quality control issues with your products.

Backer Type

547 (22)

This will typically be determined by our internal teams depending on the shape of the patch and the type of product we're attaching to.

If you're ordering individual patches, and want to specify whether they come with a paper, heat seal, peel and stick, or hook and loop backer, let us know!
